Speech intelligibility in a hall

More power does not make it clearer

When words are lost at the back of a hall, the first instinct is to add power. The result is often the opposite: the level rises, the reverberation rises with it, and speech drowns further. What genuinely improves intelligibility is loudspeaker directivity and placement, sometimes with a few square metres of treatment. The budget then moves from the loudspeaker to the survey, which is hard to defend in a meeting and very audible in the room.

Stage gear dies at the connector

A stage microphone rarely fails because of its electronics. It fails because of the cable that was pulled, the connector that was forced, the fall from the stand. That is why we suggest spending on connector quality, properly made cables and solid stage boxes rather than moving up a grade on capsules. The difference in sound is small; the difference in service life runs into years.
